2 October 2000 FA/GPSW.382 Dear Colleagues, Please find enclosed the tracking schedule No 35 for international time and frequency comparisons by GPS common views. The schedule should be implemented, as given in the following pages, on MJD=3D51822 (5 October 2000) 0 h UTC. All scheduled satellites belong to Block II. The GPS tracking schedules are sent to regular users through mail and e-mail and are also available via our INTERNET anonymous FTP (ftp2.bipm.org, node 62.161.69.5, subdirectory TAI) and on http://www.bipm.org. This tracking schedule is referring its track times to MJD=3D50722 (1 October 1997), the reference date of the GPS schedule No 29. This has no incidence on your introduction of the schedule on 5 October 2000. The idea of setting a reference date has been adopted by the participants to the Open Forum organized by the CCTF Sub-group on GPS and GLONASS Time Transfer Standards (CGGTTS) on 1 December 1997 in Long Beach, California. It should be used from now for GPS and GLONASS International Common-View Schedules. This simplifies the use of multichannel receivers: these receivers will no longer necessitate any update at the moment of the introduction of new schedules into one-channel receivers. In the future when all one- channel receivers will be withdrawn from operation, the use of a fixed reference date for =91all- in-view=92 observations by multichannel receivers will permit to cease publication of the common-view schedules. Tracking schedule No 35 is the tenth issued by the BIPM in conformity with the Technical Directives for standardization drawn up by the CCTF Sub-group on GPS and GLONASS Time Transfer Standards. The time of a track given in this schedule is thus the date of the first observation. A period of about 2 minutes is usually required to lock the receiver on to the satellite signal. The characteristic date of a track given in this schedule does not correspond to the beginning of the lock-on procedure, and thus has a different meaning from that of earlier schedules. It follows that if you operate an =91NBS-type=92 receiver, for instance TTR 5, TTR 5A, TTR 6 or TTR 6A from AOA, equipped with old or new EPROMS you are invited to modify the given track time by 2 minutes: for example, the track of European schedule of PRN 3 at 00 h 06 should be entered in the AOA receivers as starting at 00 h 04. We would greatly appreciate if you would inform us of changes in your equipment, modifications of the adopted delays, change of antenna location ...., so that we can maintain the homogeneity of the time comparisons. Please feel free to contact us if there are questions, suggestions or comments regarding the enclosed documents. Yours sincerely, E. Felicitas Arias Head, Time Section *************************************************************************** * GPS Schedule no 35 * * for implementation on MJD =3D 51822 (2000 October 5) at 0h UTC * * Reference date MJD =3D 50722 (1997 October 1) * *************************************************************************** This is a suggested tracking schedule for international time comparisons using GPS satellites in common-view between ten areas of the globe. Other laboratories are designated by their usual acronyms (see Table 3 of the Annual Report of the BIPM Time Section, Volume 12, 1999). The start times of the tracks are referenced to UTC. The start time of a track is the date of the first observation. It may be necessary to advance this time by 2 minutes if you operate an NBS-type receiver, in order to allow the lock-on procedure onto the satellite signal. The track length is 780 s. All the track times should be decremented by 4 minutes each day, to account for the GPS sidereal orbits. The track times are chosen to maximize elevation angles between pairs of stations. The class bytes are such that in association with the satellite number they form a unique identifyer for each common view. At the request of European laboratories, European schedule is divided into four sub-schedules. The establishment of sub-schedules permits the sharing of the work. European laboratories have been contacted to ensure the coordination of sub-schedules. 2 October 2000 To European Time Laboratories FA/GPSW.383 Dear Colleagues, As for the previous schedules, we have subdivided the European tracking schedule into four sub-schedules as follows: =B7 sub-schedule E1 (23 tracks) is optimized for internal European links, with a diversity of satellites observed with high elevation; =B7 sub-schedule E2 (34 tracks) includes E1 with addition of specific common views between Europe and North America; =B7 sub-schedule E3 (31 tracks) includes E1 with addition of specific common views between Europe and Middle East or East Asia; =B7 sub-schedule E4 (29 tracks) includes E1 with addition of specific common views between Europe and South America or South Africa. You are invited to follow the complete schedule. If you find it too heavy, however, do not hesitate to use one of the sub-schedules. We consider starting with next schedule to stop subdividing European schedule into sub-schedules as above. Only a schedule of 48 tracks, as for other areas shall be available. If this might cause you any problems please let us know as soon as possible. Yours sincerely, E.
